On Monday, June 17, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., the City of Lynchburg’s Office of Economic Development & Tourism (OEDT) cordially invites the public to the ribbon cutting and grand reopening of the Lynchburg Visitor Center, 216 12th Street (at the corner of 12th and Church Streets). Come experience the newly renovated center, meet the staff, and enjoy a cool treat from Chill City Pops. The ribbon cutting and the grand reopening is cohosted by the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance and the Downtown Lynchburg Association.
Over the past six months, the Lynchburg Visitor Center has undergone both indoor and outdoor renovations that re-brands and modernizes the building to better serve the needs of visitors and the community. The Center will focus on promoting a unique Lynchburg experience, foster entrepreneur activities through OEDT’s Co-Starters program, host pop-up shops, arts and cultural programs, and more. With the proximity to the Lynchburg Community Market and historic downtown, the Center will serve as a cultural hub to promote Lynchburg.
For over 30 years, the Lynchburg Visitor Center has been the front door for the City of Lynchburg welcoming thousands of travelers each year from around the world. These visitors are greeted by friendly and knowledgeable travel counselors who refer them to area attractions, culinary options, lodging, and events.
“The Lynchburg Visitor Center will always provide the highest quality visitor services,” said Marjette Upshur, Director of the Office of Economic Development & Tourism, “and our goal with this renovation was to have the Center be equipped for the modern era, providing a multi-purpose space for events, community gatherings, meeting space, and more, and I think we achieved just that.”
Along with a new look, the Visitor Center will have a new Lynchburg Experience Manager, Emelyn Gwynn Light. Light is a 2015 graduate from the University of Lynchburg and previously worked for the Town of Altavista as their Main Street Program Coordinator. “I am excited to be a part of the Lynchburg Visitor Center renaissance,” said Ms. Light. “It will become more than a place to welcome visitors. It will also serve as a hub for community engagement and add to the growing energy of our Downtown.”
